ARK VELOSTER “ALPINE” CONCEPT WITH EXTREME SPORTS FOCUS DEBUTS AT 2012 SEMA SHOW

Ark

COSTA MESA, Calif., Oct. 18, 2012 – ARK Performance has created a Veloster sport coupe concept focused on an extreme sports alpine-enthusiast lifestyle. This concept debuts with Hyundai at the 2012 SEMA show and offers a finely tailored interior using materials, colors and design themes fitting an extreme winter sports lifestyle. The active sports theme carries outside to the exterior with a number of custom accessories appealing to mountain sports enthusiasts.

The Veloster Alpine concept expands on original Veloster functional design strengths, such as the hidden third door and wide-opening rear hatch with a focused interior theme. JPM Coachworks created the interior environment with a blend of Alcantara®, fine Italian leather and WeatherTek® breathable fabric. These materials were chosen specifically for their durability in wet environments, including leather that repels mildew and a WeatherTek material commonly used in snow apparel. Combined, these materials offer eye-catching accents within the overall interior theme, while drawing the snow-like exterior color into the cabin, with bright whites and cool shades of blue. As an added touch, the warmth of the Alcantara® suede material provides a welcoming environment after a frosty day on the slopes.

“Our Veloster Alpine concept reflects the diverse lifestyle versatility we envisioned in the original Veloster concept,” said Ted Lee, owner of ARK performance, Inc. “This extreme sports coupe concept will appeal to winter sports enthusiasts who love to carve the snow as much as a twisty canyon road.”

The 1.6-liter, direct-injected Veloster engine received engine modifications, including an ARK Performance DTS exhaust system, K&N intake System, Nitrous Express Proton Kit, ARK Oil Cooler, and BTRcc custom engine bay parts and tuning. Safety Tips!

Hurricanes cause heavy rains that can cause extensive flood damage in coastal and inland areas. Here is a government safety tip to keep in mind while preparing for Hurricane Sandy. Stay safe!

Hyundai Elantra GT Tuned to Make More than 600 HP

Bisimoto-hyundai-elantra-gt

No stranger to modifying cars, Bisimoto Engineering will head to the 2012 SEMA Show with a customized Hyundai Elantra GT.

“At Bisimoto Engineering, we strive to deliver the most performance wrapped up in the most unexpected packages,” said Bisimoto executive Hedi Kim.

Tuned beyond 600 hp, the engine went through a full rebuild and got a custom turbo kit from Bisimoto. Engine management comes from an AEM Series 2 EMS while additional fuel is handled through an AEM 320-lph fuel pump. Cooling the turbocharged powerplant is a Spearco intercooler along with an AEM water-methanol kit.

“When the Elantra GT was introduced by Hyundai, we knew it would be a perfect platform for us to showcase our tuning prowess. With our experience in forced induction and small-displacement engines, we focused on raw horsepower with this SEMA concept. We think the final product is a great example of just what can be achieved with turbocharging and engine tuning in the present day,” Kim said.

It also gets a JNF roll cage on the inside, and a Progress suspension with a set of coilovers and sway bar. On all four corners are 18×8.5-inch Buddy Club P1 Racing SF Challenge wheels.

Bisimoto used a body kit from Korean parts maker ARK while Gatorwrap came in with a custom laminted vehicle wrap. The team also collaborated with Extreme Dimensions for additional hood and aero upgrades while the exhaust sports a high-quality Burns Stainless muffler.

Inside, Bisimoto knows a thing or two about complete race cars. So it’s no surprise that new racing seats and harnesses have been installed along with a Racepack IQ3 dash.

Hyundai reveals three world premieres at Paris Motor Show

Hyundai has revealed three world premieres at the Paris Motor Show: its latest Europe-focused production car, the New Generation i30 three-door; its all-new motorsport contender, the rally-ready i20; and the ix35 Fuel Cell, ready for lease by public and private fleets. These new vehicles demonstrate the brand’s commitment to providing high quality innovation in Europenow, and in the future.

The New Generation i30 three-door extends the broad appeal of Hyundai’s ‘made for Europe’ C-segment range to an even wider audience, thanks to its new, more dynamic styling. Designed and engineered alongside its five-door and wagon siblings at Hyundai’s European Technical Centre inGermany, the newcomer is the first Europe-focused three-door C-segment car from Hyundai. New design touches are visible from every angle, including new front and rear fog lamps, a new-look mesh grille, a sharply-raked beltline and a sportier rear. The three-door retains the same high levels of quality and equipment, along with the clean and efficient powertrains as the rest of the New Generation i30 family.

Hyundai’s rally-ready i20 model highlights the brand’s dynamism and performance pedigree. As with previous participation in the WRC series with the Accent, the rally-ready i20 is equipped to meet the rigorous FIA specifications required to compete in today’s WRC competition and heralds a return to motorsport for Hyundai.

Showing Hyundai’s commitment to a clean and sustainable future, the production-ready ix35 Fuel Cell debuts at the show. Benefiting from a visual make-over and technical upgrades, including a 24 kW lithium-polymer battery and 100 kW fuel stack, it has a range of 588 km. Hyundai is First to launch Series Production of Zero-Emissions Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle

Hyundai_ix35-fuel-cel_car_copenhagen

Hyundai Motor Co. announced today that it will begin series production of its hydrogen ix35 Fuel Cell vehicle for public and private lease by the end of 2012, becoming the first global automaker to begin commercial rollout of zero-emissions vehicles.

In December 2012, Hyundai will begin production of the ix35 Fuel Cell at its Ulsan manufacturing facility in Korea, with a target of building up to 1,000 vehicles by 2015.

Hyundai has already signed contracts with cities in Denmark and Sweden to lease the ix35 Fuel Cell to municipal fleets.

Beyond 2015, Hyundai plans limited mass production of the ix35 Fuel Cell, with a goal of 10,000 units.

“The ix35 Fuel Cell is the pinnacle of Hyundai’s advanced engineering and our most powerful commitment to be the industry leader in eco-friendly mobility,” said Vice Chairman Woong Chul Yang, head of Hyundai R&D. “Zero-emissions cars are no longer a dream. Our ix35 Fuel Cell vehicle is here today, and ready for commercial use.”

Built with proprietary technology, Hyundai’s ix35 Fuel Cell is powered by hydrogen. A fuel cell stack converts the hydrogen into electricity, which turns the vehicle’s motor. The only emission generated by the ix35 Fuel Cell is water.

The ix35 Fuel Cell is the halo vehicle in Hyundai’s Blue Drive sub-brand, the badge worn by Hyundai’s cleanest vehicles, including Sonata Hybrid, i20 Blue Drive and BlueOn, Hyundai’s battery-powered i10.

As governments around the world step up regulations to reduce carbon output and fossil fuel dependency, zero-emissions mobility solutions such as Hyundai’s ix35 Fuel Cell will become a driving force of change. The ix35 Fuel Cell aligns with the 2009 agreement by the European Union’s G8 countries to reduce carbon emissions by 80 percent by 2050 and California’s Zero Emission Vehicle regulations.

Hyundai’s ix35 Fuel Cell boasts drivability and performance similar to that of the petrol ix35. The ix35 Fuel Cell can be filled with hydrogen in only a few minutes. It accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 12.5 seconds, has a top speed of 160 km/h and can travel 588 kilometres without refuelling.

Hyundai chose its popular ix35 (also known as Tucson in some markets) as the first vehicle for its fuel cell technology. The ix35 is Hyundai’s second-best-selling car in Europe, behind only i30, and was one of the first to display Hyundai’s award-winning Fluidic Sculpture design identity. The ix35 is popular with families and businesses, thanks to its driver-friendly performance and five-passenger seating.

Hyundai is encouraged by the actions of several governments, especially in Europe, that have created detailed roadmaps for building a hydrogen infrastructure and are providing necessary funds. Hydrogen fuelling stations exist in several European nations and additional ones are being built and planned. Expansion of fuelling stations is also anticipated in Korea and California, and Hyundai will supply its ix35 Fuel Cell to public and private fleets there, as well.

As a true zero-emissions vehicle, the Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell is a powerful partner for public and private fleets that want to eliminate carbon emissions. It is a strong and highly visible statement of their efforts to fight climate change.

Because hydrogen can be produced in numerous ways, and because of limited vehicle demand, the cost of fuelling a hydrogen vehicle is set artificially rather than by the marketplace. Currently, the cost in Europe is roughly equivalent to 10 euros/100 km of driving range. A fully-charged ix35 Fuel Cell takes about 5.6 kg of hydrogen and can travel 588 km, meaning a fill-up costs about 56 euros.

Hyundai’s ix35 Fuel Cell is currently participating in the European Hydrogen Road Tour, organized by the European demonstration programme, H2moves. The Road Tour is a multi-city, pan-European display of hydrogen fuel cell vehicle technology, which has stopped in Paris during the motor show. Members of the media and the public are welcome to drive the Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell at the Road Tour display.

Test versions of the ix35 Fuel Cell have already received both acclaim and significant day-to-day use. The ix35 Fuel Cell was selected as a test-drive vehicle for members of the European Parliament in 2011. Hyundai fuel cells and ix35 Fuel Cell vehicles provided power and transportation for the 2012 Yeosu Expo in Korea.

The ix35 Fuel Cell is the result of 14 years and several hundred million euros of research by hundreds of engineers at Hyundai’s fuel cell R&D centre in Mabuk, Korea. The car has logged more than 2 million miles of road tests in real-world conditions in Europe, Korea and the U.S.

In early 2012, a Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell set a range record for hydrogen cars by driving from Oslo to Monaco using only existing fuelling stations.

Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Mong Koo Chung has made the fuel cell programme a top priority for the company, leading its efforts to produce eco-friendly mobility solutions and be a responsible corporate citizen.

The Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell
Vehicle The ix35 Fuel Cell is not only the most advanced eco-friendly vehicle produced by Hyundai, it is a working vehicle ready to stand the rigors of daily use in public and private fleets.

From a driver and passenger viewpoint, the ix35 Fuel Cell is barely distinguishable from its conventionally powered cousin. The only difference drivers are likely to notice is the absence of engine noise, thanks to the ix35 Fuel Cell’s whisper-quiet electric induction motor.

Hyundai’s downsizing of its proprietary fuel cell stack enables the ix35 Fuel Cell to accommodate five passengers with comfort. A fill-up at a hydrogen fuelling station takes only a few minutes – just like the petrol-powered ix35. With a range of 588 kilometres, the ix35 Fuel Cell eliminates “range anxiety” often associated with alternative-fuel vehicles.

The big difference that drivers – and the environment – will notice is what comes out of the ix35 Fuel Cell’s tailpipe: nothing but water.

The new Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell has received an exterior makeover, with a new grille and other design touches that distinguish it from its predecessor test vehicles.

Inside, the ix35 Fuel Cell has been seriously upgraded. The fuel economy and range have been improved by 10 percent over the previous-generation model. Internal systems have been additionally modularized so the ix35 Fuel Cell can be easily manufactured on a conventional assembly line at Hyundai’s Ulsan facility.

Most importantly for motorists, the new ix35 Fuel Cell has been tuned for the demanding preferences of European drivers, with improved handling and driving dynamics.

Hyundai’s ix35 Fuel Cell has unique operating features that set it apart from its competitors.

Unlike other fuel cell vehicles that use compressed air to supply oxygen to the fuel cell stack, Hyundai’s ix35 Fuel Cell uses ambient air. This reduces parasitic loss in the oxygen supply, raising fuel efficiency and reducing power consumption by 50 percent. For passengers, the elimination of an air compressor reduces noise inside the cabin.

In addition to the fuel cell stack, the ix35 Fuel Cell uses the same lithium-polymer battery found in the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. A kinetic energy regeneration system charges the battery when the driver applies the brakes or drives downhill.

The ix35 Fuel Cell is equipped with stop/start technology, which shuts down the fuel cell stack and relies on battery power only when the vehicle is idling, minimizing energy loss in city driving.

In sum, the ix35 Fuel Cell combines all of the drivability, styling and features of Hyundai’s popular ix35 and adds a powerful bonus: zero emissions.

The Hyundai Fuel Cell Programme
Hyundai’s fuel cell programme is based at its Eco-Technology Research Institute in Mabuk, Korea, about 45 minutes south of Seoul. The centre represents the leading edge of Hyundai’s eco-friendly power train research.

The energy-saving LEED-certified research centre has its own hydrogen fuelling station and manufactures its fuel cell stacks in-house.

The programme was launched in 1998 with a roadmap targeting series production of fuel cell vehicles by the end of 2012 and consumer sales by 2015.

“The mission of the Mabuk research centre is to create commercially viable, zero-emissions vehicles,” said Dr Tae Won Lim, Managing Director of fuel cell R&D. “The ix35 Fuel Cell achieves that goal, providing a clear choice for public and private fleets.”

I was not expecting to buy my first car when my parents and I decided to go look at new cars.. The salesmen we spoke with at another dealership just did not give me a good feeling. Since I had previously owned a Hyundai xg 350 (loved it) I wanted my next stop to be at a Hyundai dealership. My parents and I helped ourselves & began looking at all the cars located in the "side" lot. At this point we did not have any assistance, which was VERY nice because it allowed me to discuss what I did and didn't like, price points, and etc. without the added pressure of a salesman. I could not get my mind off the Hyundai Sonata. We were headed up to the sales office to find someone to give us more information.. Before we got to the sales office, we met Rob. I instinctively had a good feeling. He showed me all the options, and thoroughly explained the differences and benefits of each. I felt as if he were selling a car to his own daughter instead of trying to make a sale. The confidence he portrayed in Hyundai caused me not to want to look any farther. He took the time to search for the perfect color and interior that I wanted. Brian Lane came along during the negotiation process to ensure we were getting the best deal possible. When we went to finance, we had the lovely pleasure of working with Lee Brooks. He carefully explain everything in a way that I was able to understand. He was very personable and thorough. By this time it was close to 11pm on a Friday evening. We apologized for keeping him there so late and without hesitation he made us feel that he was happy to be there to help us and not to be rushed. Once again I felt confident that he was looking out for my best interest and not trying to get "another sale" out of the way. Needless to say Rob, Brian and Lee made me feel like I joined the Hyundai family and made my first car buying experience an absolute pleasure!
